Battle for Terra
Battle for Terra
directed by Aristomenis Tsirbas
Lionsgate, 2007
Genre: Science Fiction, Animation
Honors: Silver Gryphon Award, Crystal Heart Award, Ottawa International Animation Award
Review: Terra, a peaceful planet, is suddenly invaded by humans who desire to destroy the Terrans and take over the planet as their new living area. Mala, a fearless Terran, is the only one of her species who tries to fight back when the humans steal her father. During her quest to find her father, Mala saves the human Jim, and together they realize that both races are worth treasuring and endeavor to stop the civil war in order to live in harmony.
Opinion: Although this movie wasn't very popular, I liked the plot and imagination put into the story line. It has some dark elements and requires some intellectual understanding from the audience, which can be appealing to the older tweens.
Ideas: This movie would work well as a part of a display of items related to understanding and accepting those from other cultures, and learning how to live in peace despite differences. Another idea might be as a list of movies that older tweens would love to watch over the summer.
