The Twits

The Twits
by Roald Dahl
illustrated by Quentin Blake

Puffin Books, 1998

Genre:  Humor, Fiction

Honors:  None known
Review:  Mr. and Mrs. Twit are the most horrible, disgusting, and dirty people you would ever want to meet. When Mr. Twit eats, food particles get stuck in his scraggly beard that become moldy because he never washes it. Mrs. Twit used to be beautiful, but became ugly because she was constantly being mean and awful to other living beings. Together, they make quite a pair and find themselves in an awkward position when trying to capture birds for their bird pie.

Opinion:  I found this book to be laugh-out-loud funny, with an intriguingly disgusting yet fun bent. The way Dahl ties the story together really blew me away by its cleverness, and I recalled why his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series is so popular.

Ideas:  Roald Dahl is a famous children's author, and as his birthday is in September, I would love to create a huge display of all his works in that month - in both book and audio form, as well as their movie counterparts. This book would also work well on a list for new readers due to it's short size.
