Review: Sarah Crewe and her father lived in India until he was called away by the British army's draft and she had to live at a boarding school in England. When her father was killed in action, the school no longer received a stipend to support Sarah, so the headmistress took all her processions and cast her in attic as a housemaid. Although the head of school treated the housemaids very poorly, Sarah was able to use her imagination and positive outlook to make life pleasant for herself and other girls around her. Suddenly, the Indian servant next door and his kind benefactor took a liking to her which changed her life in a most surprising way.
Opinion: The main character was the perfect representation of the actual Sarah Crewe from the original book. However, the plot veered from Frances Hodgson Burnett's story to create a more Hollywood-esque ending, which was bothersome to me. My favorite aspect of the movie was the school building set, which really made the setting from the book come alive.
Ideas: Since this movie is an adaptation of the book A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, I would love to make a display of the original book and all it's adaptations in various formats. Another idea might be for an in-library showing of the movie as a program for children.
