Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist
Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist
by Liz Kessler
Scholastic, Inc, 2007
Genre: Fantasy
Honors: New York Times Bestselling Series
Review: Daughter of a human and merman, Emily is unique with special abilities. Upon land, Emily lives as a human with legs, and underwater, Emily has a fin and breathes as a mermaid. Second in the series, Emily Windsnap faces a new adventure. She stumbles upon a large diamond ring during a class assignment, a ring that seems to call to her in a very powerful way. When Emiily discovers that it was an ancient ring cursed by King Neptune, she suddenly finds herself in a position where she is given only a few days to find the rings' missing counterpart before being stripped of her unique abilities.
Opinion: This book was great light reading material with some minor suspense and thrill, which made for an enjoyable read. I think that this book is great for the female tween and those who like a modern fantasy story.
Ideas: This would work as suggested reading material for kids who have parents who seem to have trouble with each other but love each other deeply. It could also work well in a display of fantasy books for tween girls.
